Customer Question

Can your commander issue a no contact order to a Soldier that does not violate anything in AR 600-20. We are the same rank and in different branches of service. We are in no way in or even close to each others chain of command. We are currently deployed in joint environment.

The answer is yes. Military commanders are given broad authority to do so. There does not need to have been a criminal act committed to issue the order. That said, a commander cannot issue the order without being able to articulate the reasons for the order. If the order is being issued for no reason, then your redress is to request mast up the chain of command to the commander. If he does not relent, then you can request to speak with his commander to explain that you believe the order has not been issued for a legitimate reason.
