I was in the USMC in 1976 was in about 40 days I got injured hernia issue,,, I decided it best for me to see my own doctor, they gave me a DD214 and an Honorable discharge dd256, Under Medical issue I assume.. according to the VA if you served before 1980 there is no certain time that needs to be served to get VA benefits.. I was wondering what my chances are of being able to get VA medical care or other benefits. Length of Service Prior to September 8, 1980, there was no minimum length of service necessary to be considered a veteran for most VA benefits. However, for an individual who enlisted after September 8, 1980, there are now certain minimum length of service requirements.
