You can convert daily data to weekly data in Excel by creating a pivot table, and grouping the rows in the pivot table in groups of seven days, or one week.
- Click the top left cell in your spreadsheet, hold down the mouse button, drag diagonally to the bottom right cell and release the mouse button to highlight the populated cells in your spreadsheet.
- Click "Insert" from the menu and choose "PivotTable" from the ribbon.
- Keep the selection in the top half of the "Create PivotTable" box that appears. Change the second section to "Existing Worksheet," click the button to the right of the "Location" label, click a cell where you want to place the top left corner of the pivot table, then press "Enter" and click "OK."
- Click the column label that contains the data you want to summarize in the PivotTable Field List window. Hold down the mouse button, drag it to the "Values" box and release the mouse.
- Click the inverted triangle next to the field you dragged to the "Values" box, click "Value Field Settings...," click "Sum" and click "OK" to calculate a total by week.
- Click the column label that contains the day in the PivotTable Field List window. Hold down the mouse button, drag it to the "Row Labels" box and release the mouse.
- Click a cell in the date column of the pivot table that Excel created in the spreadsheet. Right-click and select "Group," then "Days." Enter "7" in the "Number of days" box to group by week. Click "OK" and verify that you have correctly converted daily data to weekly data.
