To set this up correctly, the spreadsheet must be created within PowerPoint using the Insert command:
This is only one way to embed a spreadsheet and chart correctly:
1. Open a new presentation. It should start with one slide in it.
2. Go to Home / Slides group / click on the arrow to the right of New Slide / click in Title and Content. A second slide should now be added.
3. Click on the icon Insert Chart / Insert Chart should launch / click on OK.
4. An EXCEL Workbook should now launch and it will have some trial data in it.
5. You should see a chart for that data in slide 2.
6. Now save the PowerPoint presentation:-
Click the Office Button (top left hand corner) / Save As (on left hand side) / type in a file name, then click on Save.
7. Close the file and then reopen it. It should now have an embedded Excel file included. You can move the chart from slide 2 onto slide 1 if you wish.
To edit the chart:
1. Under Chart Tools on the Design tab, in the Data group, click Edit Data. Excel will open in a new window and display the worksheet for the selected chart.
2. In the Excel worksheet, click the cell that contains the title or the data that you want to change, and then enter the new information. When done, close the Excel file. PowerPoint refreshes and saves the chart automatically.

yes, I got it, sorry for the delay in getting back to you -
When I try to update the data you sent, it does not refresh and the refresh option is greyed out.
However, when I create a new presentation using my own computer, and add an embedded spreadsheet and chart, I am able to refresh the data.
I am still trying to figure out why it doesn't work in the presentation you sent.
