This answer was rated:

need help creating a formula in excel

The-PC-Guy :

Thanks for using JustAnswer. My name isXXXXX will do whatever I can to answer your question

The-PC-Guy :

what kind of formula do you need?

The-PC-Guy :

or what are you looking to have the formula do?

Customer:

IN EXCEL CAN I ATTACH A COPY SO IT WILL BE EASIER TO UNDERSTAND?

The-PC-Guy :

sure

The-PC-Guy :

if you have a paperclip icon at the top of your chat window

The-PC-Guy :

it says image

The-PC-Guy :

but works for xls files as well

The-PC-Guy :

if that doesn't work

The-PC-Guy :

there are other options

Customer:

Andrew downloading some software on my computer it is on and cant get it right now.

Customer:

Let me try to explain what i need.

The-PC-Guy :

ok

Customer:

Cell a6 is Date --- Cell B6 is Customers Name--- Cell C6 is job type --- D6 is Parts Tech ---- E7 is Parts Company ---- F6 is Total amount of Job --- G6 is amount of Tax ---- H6 is Total ----- I6 is Techs Pay ---- J6 is Companies Pay

The-PC-Guy :

did I loose you?

Customer:

What I am looking for F6 is the total amount of completed job. If the company pays for parts on job we would put that amount in E6. If the Tech bought parts we would put that amount in D6. It could be where we both purchase parts for job so both cells could have numbers in them. Or maybe no numbers in those cells.

Customer:

or there could be a number we put in the tax slot 6G. we need the 6H total to minus those 3 Cells (6D, E6, G6) Then the 6H Cell total to give the tech6I 60% of total or6H + any amount from 6D -- And and 6J would get 40% of 6H + 6E +6G.

Customer:

does this make sense?

The-PC-Guy :

ok

The-PC-Guy :

i think somewhat

The-PC-Guy :

so H6 will be

The-PC-Guy :

D6 - E6 - G6

The-PC-Guy :

so it would always be negative?

The-PC-Guy :

or did I not understand

The-PC-Guy :

i think i understand the 2nd part about the percentages

Customer:

H6 would be any minus from d6 e6 or g6 from the total of F6

The-PC-Guy :

ok

Customer:

if there is nothing added to those cells it would just stay the same as f6

The-PC-Guy :

so H6 = F6 - D6 - E6 - G6

The-PC-Guy :

well

The-PC-Guy :

if the cell is blank

The-PC-Guy :

it would just be treated as a zero

The-PC-Guy :

so in cell h6 put

The-PC-Guy :

= F6 - D6 - E6 - G6

The-PC-Guy :

that will give you the total for H6

The-PC-Guy :

now for the tech\

The-PC-Guy :

they get 60% of H6 + any value in D6

The-PC-Guy :

so the formula you put in cell I6

The-PC-Guy :

would be

The-PC-Guy :

= (H6*.6)+D6

The-PC-Guy :

and finally

The-PC-Guy :

the formula for J6

The-PC-Guy :

would be

The-PC-Guy :

= (H6*.4)+ E6 + G6

The-PC-Guy :

are those the formulas you need?

Customer:

I think that is what I am looking for. Can I get a hard copy of this?

The-PC-Guy :

do you mean in a text file

The-PC-Guy :

or in an excel sheet?

Customer:

either?

The-PC-Guy :

ok I can do text file because its a little easier

The-PC-Guy :
