what is correct way to write a sum formula which needs info

This answer was rated:

what is correct way to write a 'sum' formula which needs info from another worksheet in the
same spreadsheet? I was trying: "=sum('Dec 2012'!)'Dec 2012'l5:l8" in a spreadsheet that contains worksheets Jan 2013, Feb 2013, and so on. Note: the double quotes " " above are not in my formula.
You need to do it like this

=sim(dec 2010!A1)

It would reference A1 in that sheet

If you have any difficulties at all, please do not hesitate to let me know so I can assist you further

Thank you

that is how I set the formula, but when I hit 'enter', the formula changes to

include another Dec 2012 like so: =sum(Dec 2012!)'Dec 2012'l5:l8 and then asks me which worksheet to use, and then when I select worksheet

and hit enter, up pops the #NAME?

Can I look at your worksheet please Jim?

- Click the following link:
- Upload the file to that website
- Once it is uploaded, the resulting page will display a "File ID" number.
- Please, give me that "File ID Number"

Thanks for your help.....I don't understand why the last formula you wrote has a space where the ! was before....can you explain?

The editor puts it in Jim, spaces have no bearing in formulas (Excel will correct them).

Feel free to ask if you would like more information please

Thank you
