worked on excel file all day Friday. had auto save on. open machine today and it has reverted back to last save date of thursday. I cant find any of my Friday changes at all. how do i recover, where would a friday saved file be?

Hello and thank you for contacting JustAnswer, I would be happy to help you today.

Strange your file would not have been saved to the current date. You can try an Excel Recovery program to see if it can locate the file and restore it for you. This is a trial version, but it should give you enough information so that you know whether or not the file is even there.

i cant use the recovery program

CrossOver cannot run because a required system component, X11, is not installed

its a work computer so i cant install the required component.

Isnt there a temp files or somewhere I can look?

What version of Windows and Excel are you using?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

im on Mac - mountain lion OS. excel for Mac 2011 (v. 14.2.5)

Okay. I will need to opt out and move you to the Mac category. Good luck!
I want to force the MAC into a recovery to see if it can still get the data.

Open the excel file and then hold the power on the computer till it turns off.

Then turn it on and open Excel and check if it is recovering Fridays data or Thursdays.

I am fearful you lost your work as it had not been auto saving (always use CMD+S to properly save), and if my instructions are not succesful, then the work has been lost sorry.

If you have problems, or would like any additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know.

And if you can take a second to rate my service, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
