I made changes while in compatibility mode - I clicked save but the changes are all gone. Can the changes be recovered?

Can you elaborate the problem further? Are you referring to a word document?

It was an EXCEL doc and I think I edited it from an email attachment

Recovery of this type of scenario is critical. If you did not download the file then save it to your local drive, then there are only 2 ways to recover the file: 1) In the Temp folder and 2) using a recovery software.

Here are the folders where you can browse for the missing file:
where your-username is the user name in your Windows computer.

If you can't locate the file in those folders, then try to use the following tools:

  1. Download and install Recuva. Here is the link:

  2. After the download, install it then run the scan to browse for deleted files in your computer.

If these process won't recover your file, then it could have been dumped from memory and hard disk and is no longer recoverable. That's what make the recovery process critical.
