Powerpoint 2003. 1. Attached a wmv file to a slide to play

Customer Question

Powerpoint 2003.

1. Attached a wmv file to a slide to play with .5 sec delay. Only audio plays, no video.

2. Went through all sounds on presentation, clicked the hide audio icon for everyone, in slide presentation the icon still appears.

3. I know adding a movie is a link and not embedded. I packaged the presentation as a CD, copied to a folder. If I upload the folder to my server for a client to download, how will that effet the video link?

Hello, I am very good with PowerPoint and I'd like to take a stab at fixing your problem. Would you be able to upload a copy of the presentation to me along with specific details on which slides aren't working correctly, and what you would like to have done to them? I will get the problem fixed for you and provide detailed instructions on how I fixed them.

You can upload the file(s) to and then just copy and paste the download link on this page so I can access it.

I hope this works. Go to,

Right click,

Save Link As…wherever you want, desktop, documents etc.

Go to saved file…right click on zip file…choose extract.

Double left click on Making the Phone ring.ppt

When powerpoint opens hit F5, sit and enjoy.

Please let me know how you make out.

I will not be available to look at this until later tonight. I will opt out for now, and if somebody else answers it, great. Otherwise, I will review later.

ok, no hurry anymore. Just want to know what
I was doing wrong.

Ok, I got it working by converting the video to pure WMV format using iWisoft Free Video Converter (, and then embedding the video and setting it to play automatically.

For the audio icons, for whatever reason, you have as many as 8 audio icons tied to a single slide, and they were all hiding on top of each other.....I separated them so you can see them, and made sure to select "hide during show" for each of them. You no longer see this during the actual slide show.

As long as the video file stays in the same folder as the the presentation itself, you shouldn't experience any issues with playback. Test this out, but in theory it should be fine.

One note....Depending on your version of PowerPoint, you may get a message to "Enable Content" or "Unlock for Editting." Make sure you allow this to happen before using this.

Downloaded but speaker icon is still showing and some sounds are missing.
Expert:  rhess replied 5 years ago.
Ok...not sure what to tell you. The icons weren't showing and the sounds were playing on my computer using Office 2010. I'll opt out to let somebody else review. My only advise would be to completely re-do the sound...Again, some slides had up to 8 audio icons on them.

And just a tip from training and professional experience, it's not really recommended to use transition sounds or sound effects in presentations. They are mostly a distraction to the actual content and mostly unnecessary.
