Thanks!

Ok.. question.. Have you tried opening power point since it crashed? if autorecovery was turned on.. then it should open the last document it was working on.

Other then that.. Did you have autosave turned on for powerpoint before the crash?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
yes i have reopened it and at first the file came right back up, but then it crashed again a minute later and this time the file did not come back up. autosave was on because as i was working on the presentation the autosave screen would show up to say it was saving it.
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
Got you..

Ok.. go to applications folder, utilities, terminal

then.. type in

sudo -s

hit enter.. it should ask for your admin password.. Now your a super user.

next we need to check the location of the powerpoint.tmp files

type in the terminal

ls -al /.Trashes/ hit enter.. any powerpoint files there?

If not, check both of these

ls -al /private/tmp/
ls -al /var/tmp/

any powerpoint files there??
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
I can't type in my password. when i type it nothing is typed on the screen
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
apologies for the delay.

What you need to do is type in the password correctly anyways, and hit enter

it wont show you typing anything in.. But, it will take it if typed correctly!

Let me know if you get stuck again
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
okay now terminal is just blank. if i type in sudo -s and hit enter, it does not ask for a password. there is nothing in the terminal box
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
Excellent.. then your in super user mode.

now.. type in the rest

ls -al /.Trashes/ hit enter.. any powerpoint files there?

If not, check both of these

ls -al /private/tmp/
ls -al /var/tmp/

Thats no "eye" s its L s ( but a little L )

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
nothing is happening when i type those things and hit enter. is something supposed to pop up?
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
yes.. please close the terminal, and then reopen it

can you type into it now?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
no, they type in but nothing comes up. no files or powerpoints
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
ok.. did you try t yping in all three commands?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
apologies for the delay..

Lets try this instead.

type this into the finder window instead of terminal

ls -al /.Trashes/

does it show any files now?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
where is the finder window?
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
The finder window should be at the top right of your screen, its a small white text box you type in programs or files you want to find

the icon for finder looks like this

Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Nothing comes up when i type that in
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
ok, try typing in powerpoint.tmp

does that bring anything up?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
no nothing comes up
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
Hmmm..

try going to the System Folder., open the preferences folder..

do you see any files called files called "PowerPoint temp file x," where x is a number ??
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
what system folder? system preferences? there is no file there. it is just all settings for my computer
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
Try Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ .. any powerpoint temp files in there?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
what do you mean try it? try it where?
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
Go to your library folder, preferences, microsoft, ..

do you see any powerpoint temp files there?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
no there is nothing. do you think you can help me or do you see no solution here?
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
It doesnt seem as if there are any tmp files..

Powerpoint must not be saving them , or else they are being saved somewhere else. Ive tried to help you check all locations possible..

The only thing left, is to go inside powerpoint, check t he options for autosave, and see if its got the autosave file location listed.
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
where do i find options for autosave?
Expert:  Dustin replied 5 years ago.
In powerpoint prefernces, on the save tab..

all the autosave options should show there...

My apologies for the delay, its getting very late my time, may have to continue tommorow
