I jacked up the car all four off the ground spun tire by hand and heard noise, metallic scraping near hub bearings assumed that was it
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Replaced it, road tested didnt hear metallic noise but still an oscillating noise and vibration with increased speed
Mercury Mechanic: john aka eauto, The Car Guy replied 7 months ago

they are famous for diff failures on the awd models... needs to be run with the wheels off the ground to verify if the noise is from the diff,, if the ring gear looks good its likley the side bearings or pinion bearing

Ran it off ground with the wheels off in case it was a out of balance tire, slight exhaust leak but sounded like the diff
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Doesnt that throw off the transmission try to keep all tires going same speed?
Mercury Mechanic: john aka eauto, The Car Guy replied 7 months ago

no the transfer case distributes power and its all wheel drive thats how the system operates
