Customer Question
I had my r/tire...

I had my r/tire changed and now my car wont go over 43 miles an hour? A light comes on in the r/hand corner of the drivers side that reads "Trac"...and something else that i can not read. It also slows down when going up-hills? I have a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you ever changed a tire on this vehicle?

Yes I had one changed last week by the same tire shop without any problems. Inside the Glove Department is a Trac Botton for the Air Bag. Maybe the car was let down to hard

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '98 Mercury?

Grand Marquis

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Marquis yourself? What have you tried so far?

Nothing! I just drove it at that speed.

Have you checked to make sure new tire is same size as the old tires?

No!

The Tire Shop made sure it was the same size tire!
Mercury Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 10 months ago

How traction system works is each wheel has a wheel speed sensor which monitors tire rotation. The wheel speed sensors send information to abs/traction module. If module sees that tires are rotating at different speeds it assumes vehicle is sliding out of control and activates the traction control. So what you are dealing with would most likely mean wrong tire size is installed or other tires are too worn causing abs/traction module to see a difference in tire speed. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.
