I have a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis. It has been running…

Customer Question
I have a 1992...

I have a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis. It has been running like a dream until recently. It started to stall at stop lights. I read it was probably the IAC valve - so I replaced it. The mechanic told me when he pulled the new IAC out of the box - there was no gasket - so he installed the new IAC without a gasket. He also told me that when he removed the old IAC from the car it didn't have a gasket either. I also changed the Mass Air Sensor, but when I did the Engine Light came on. However, the car ran beautifully even with Check Engine light on. Feeling that the Check Engine was being caused by my mechanic not adding a gasket to the IAC, I had him re-do the job. Unfortunately, that didn't solve the problem. I bought an OBD 1 read/scan for old cars. We connected it and it read code 157. So I took the Mass Air Sensor off and replaced it. Then the Engine Light went off. Unfortunately, the Engine Light came back today. Now, it stalls at Stop Lights, and jerks. I just can't figure out what the problem is. Help!

Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?

It stays on

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Marquis yourself? What have you tried so far?

No, someone in the neighborhood recommended this guy who is a retired mechanic. He seems to know what he is doing. I have changed the IAC and the Mass Air Sensor, changed the oil and filter, and changed the Transmission filter too.

Hi, My name is Jay

If you follow the PCV valve tube to where it connects on the intake and look for a hole in the vacuum T where it connects to intake port. The line gets a hole and rubber gets real soft over time. Replace the PCV line and it should help the engine from stalling.

The other side of the line goes to the brake booster vacuum line.
