I am changing the rear main seal on a 2005 Mustang GT . The video I watched showed the mechanic removing the rear plate that holds the rear main seal in place. The plate moves but seems stuck on the seal and crankshaft. Should I loosen the bolts on the oil pan and lower to give more wiggle room for the rear housing/plate? Should I remove the seal by brute force by using sharp picks? Thanks!

Hi Im David, ill send you the instructions

auto or 5 speed?

5 speed manual. I also attached a photo of the engine.

ok, just use something sharp hammer it through the seal and pry it out.

just like you would on the front main seal

Ok. Is there any point in loosening the bolts on the oil pan? When I put the rear cover back on do I risk rolling the edge of the rubber oil pan gasket?

if it makes you feel better by all means. if you take your time and do it correctly you'll be ok

how'd it go?

Hi David, I have the rear main seal installed. The old one had two pieces. A seal and oil slinger. Do I need a new oil slinger/retainer ring? Or is the new felpro seal a one piece only design? I attached a photo.

let me make sure, before i stick my foot in my mouth
