just started having to pump gas to get car started. then it acts flooded for a min. want start at all without the pumping deal
JA: Has the vehicle turned into a gas hog? And how does it start -- same as usual?
Customer: no hog......starting acting up last nite at stop lites
JA: What year is your MINI?
Customer: mini?
JA: Are you fixing your MINI yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: plusg, new air filter

You may have a fuel pump going bad, but I would recommend having the fuel pressure tested properly while the problem is occurring. You will need to have a fuel pressure tester gauge set to properly test the fuel system.

Not really. Unless the air filter is clogged, but then it would happen all the time, not just at stop lights.

Also, having the vehicle scanned for trouble codes in the engine computer may help narrow down any possibilities.

Yes, there is a MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor mounted in the air intake tube near the air filter. But the fuel pump can go out completely and it can also slow down because it is an electrical motor.
