Ok. Do you have a test light?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no just a multimeter. willing to get one if needed
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

The meter will work.

First lets check for power to the injectors with the key turned on. You should have power on the RED wire at any one of the injectors. If not power, make sure the check engine light comes on when the key is turned to on. Also check fuse #28 in the engine bay fuse box. But if you have power, then check for a pulsed ground while cranking the engine over. You may need a helper when you do this.

A test light is best to use when checking for a pulsed ground.

red wire has power. no pulsed ground

Ok. You stated you replaced the camshaft position sensor. Was this problem present before you replaced it or after?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
before. wondering if i should replace crankshaft position sensor
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

No, the crankshaft sensor controls spark, the camshaft sensor controls the fuel injectors. Have you been able to check for any trouble codes in the PCM (Engine Computer)?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
ive tried running a code reader but it comes up with nothing. battery was removed at one point during process so all codes were seem to have been cleared
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Ok. Crank the engine over and see if the check engine light goes out while the engine is cranking. This will tell us I the crankshaft sensor is good and reading properly.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
light stays on
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Ok, then you should go and look at the crankshaft sensor. If the PCM sees an RPM signal from the crankshaft sensor, it will turn the check engine light out while cranking.

Check the wiring connector for oil in the connector.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
wires are completely striped, raw copper from both wires touching each other
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

The wires will either have to be repaired or the wiring connector will have to be replaced.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
okay, ill try this, will check back when i'm done
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Sounds good.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
still no start but the check engine light no longer comes on when cranking
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Check and see if you get a pulsed ground to the injectors.
