Mercury Sable: Am replacing the water pump..v6..DOHC..removing

Customer Question

Am replacing the water pump on a1996 Mercury Sable v6 DOHC engine. I bought the part at Kragen and it seemed simple enough until I looked at removing the serpent belt. the pump itself
seems to just unbolt. What do I do? Thanks Bill

How do I get the wrench on the tensioner? I tried getting a socket in there, but it's extremely tight.
Expert:  Chuck replied 8 years ago.

Yes it is a tight fit To be honest I never use a socket or wrench I just pull the belt with my hand.

But do you have a breaker par to put the socket on instead of a socket wrench? The breaker bar head is not as big as the ratch and gives you a little more clearance.

Okay I'll try that then follow the rest of your instructions, Thanks, Bill

Only other thing I can think of is if you have a wrench with the swivel socket end on it.

How about an offset box wrench?
Expert:  Chuck replied 8 years ago.
Worth a try.
