Hi my name is ***** ***** I will be happy to assist with this today. In some cases I may need more info to assist better.I apologize for any delay.

The codes set here are for cylinder 1 misfire as well as intake and exhaust cam sensor failures. If the cam sensor codes occurred at the same time this can be a fault with the mechanical timing in the engine itself. This will cause the cam sensor codes as well as the engine misfire.

I would have the cam sensor signals tested to see if the cam sensors need replaced and if they are found to be o.k. I suspect the timing components will need checked to locate and repair this issue here.A worn timing gear can cause this fault or balance shaft gear which was a common fault on some of the early models like yours with the 272 motor like yours has.It was a major repair that can cost up around $1500 in some cases.

If more help is needed, use the reply tab to continue our conversation. If no further assistance is needed, kindly rate my service, your 5 star rating is appreciated ( should be a link to click on here or above). You can rate at any time and we can continue to work on your question as this will not close out your question.Keep in mind in some cases it can be difficult to fully diagnose or help repair your vehicle without seeing it and I work on delivering the best possible answer from what I see to work with.

Thanks Pete

Well the p0301 came on twice hasn't again. I changed the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.
How do I know if timing is off?
Can it be camshaft adjustment solenoids?
Mercedes Mechanic: Pete, Mercedes Mechanic replied 10 months ago

Usually this is done with a compatible scan tool or dealers sds machine to check the cam and crank sensor signals to see what the cam offset is at.There is a procedure a dealer uses on their sds machine plugged into your vehicle that walks them through the signal testing using the sds machine to test the signals to determine this.

Usually when you have two separate sensor signals it isnt a cam solenoid at fault. The balance shaft issue was very common on this model.

Let me know if you need anything else and feel free to rate my help here or above ( should be a link to click on ) as this is how I receive credit for my time, this can be done at any time and you can still come back here and reply if needed.Your 5 star rating is appreciated

Thanks Pete
