Have Mercedes Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Hi my name is ***** ***** I will be happy to assist with this today. In some cases I may need more info to assist better.I apologize for any delay.
If there is a fault with the shifter itself this will cause a false signal to the computers on what gear it is in.This will cause the fault you are seeing here.I have seen some shifter assemblies that have to be replaced to resolve this type of fault here. The shifter usually has to be removed and inspected as well as shift linkage for any issues.
The fault codes also need to be checked/read out with a fully compatible scan tool/computer plugged into your vehicle to see what codes are set and once this is done any codes set then need diagnosed and repaired.
If the shifter assembly has to be replaced it usually has to be programmed by a dealer.
Since this is a 2016 model this should be all covered under factory warranty for the repairs at no charge to you.
