Hi, my name is***** is a control cable that runs from the throttle linkage at the back of the engine down to the transmission. If this cable is too tight it will cause this symptom. I would first disconnect the cable at the throttle linkage and make sure that the transmission shifts very quickly through the gears then I would adjust the length of the cable to obtain the desired shift points. You will need to remove the air cleaner to access the cable.

Let me know if you have any questions.
