Customer Question

Lou Help! 02 C230k 200,000 car was running very well, intersection just died. recent work 6 months or less... new plugs (OEM) new crank sensor and cam cleaned mass air. new fuel pump and filter about 2 months ago. turns over but seems like no fuel or spark. Read threads about K40, have yet to verify. last test - live data scanner when fuel pump was replaced O2 were ok. things seemed ok on car, all sensors working. Stumped. No erratic idle or anything obvious. does need the cam adjuster for timing replaced. makes that err err noise.

could the brushes on alternator caused this?

Hello I'd agree that the K40 relay is a strong candidate for your issues but this could be a wiring issue as things tend to expand when hot and its possible a poor or partial electrical connection is being pushed apart on one of the major sensors so check the connection plug and wiring to the following;Airflow meterCrank position sensorCam position sensorO2 sensorThrottle position sensor unplug each in turn and use some switch / contact cleaner spray on the pins to ensure its all grease / dirt free

Hello Randy and sorry for my delay. First off your model does not have a K40 , so don't bother looking for one , you said you checked live scanner data I need to know if you see rpm when cranking also you need to check fuel pressure and also use a noid light to verify injector pulse. There is not much that goes wrong with this model with a scenario like yours so I can confident we can figure this out. Lou P.
