Hi, what have you checked so far? Have any parts been replaced?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
we havent changed anyparts yet but i suspect the trans control module
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

Did you say that the speedometer wasn't working?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
correct no speedo
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

Sounds like either a bad ESP module or a bad transmission module. I'd disconnect the transmission module and see if the speedometer works. If it doesn't I'd suspect the ESP module or no power to the module.

where
is the tcm located
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

It's located in the module box under the hood on the passenger side.

speedometer dont work after disconnecting the tcm.....where can i find the esp module?
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

It should be right next to the TCM.

Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

The K40 relay in the same box powers the ESP module. You should have 12V on the red/yellow wire at the esp module with the key on.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
is it the connector with the 1 wire?
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

The red/yellow wire is in the 30 pin connector on the ESP module at position 14.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
i have 13.16v at the red/yellow wire
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
do you think it is the esp module
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

Can you scan the ESP module for codes?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
my scanner will read engine, trans, airbag, instrument panel, electronic gear selector, airco, tire pressure, service intervals.....the codes i got are P1747...P1605....P0600
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
MY SCANNER SAYS NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE TCM
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE ELECTRONIC GEAR SELECTOR AND ALSO THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

Since the speedometer is not working I would have to suspect a fault with the ESP module. If the TCM does not receive a speed signal it will go into limp home mode. I'd like to know the codes in the ESP module before I condemn the module. You could swap out the TCM with a good used one as a test. You could do the same with the ESP module. If you disconnect the ESP module can you communicate with the other modules? Is there any sign of transmission fluid in the TCM?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
NO SIGN OF TRANS FLUID IN THE TCM
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I WILL TRY DISCONNECTING THE ESP
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
THE CONNECTOR AT THE TRANS HAD FLUID ON IT BUT ONCE CLEANED NO CHANGE
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

At this point I would either get the codes read with a Mercedes tester that can read all of the modules or I would try a used ESP module. If you have no success I would try a used TCM but the fact that the speedometer is not working leads me to think that the ESP module is faulty or there is a wheel speed sensor failure.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I UNPLUGGED THE ESP MODULE AND STILL GOT NO RESPONSE
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

Not sure if I trust your scan tool. Ideally I'd like to see the car connected to the Mercedes Star Diagnosis tester. Since you have no speedometer I'd try a used ESP module.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
WHAT DOES ESP STAND FOR
Expert:  Marty replied 2 years ago.

Electronic Stability Program. It's the same as the ABS module.

Customer: replied 2 years ago.
IM TRYING TO FIND A USED ABS MODULE?
