Mercedes-Benz SLK320: The key fob for my 2001 Mercedes SLK

Resolved Question:

The key fob for my 2001 Mercedes SLK 3.2 started to only lock/umlock the passenger door. Now it wont lock or unlock the car and it won't operate switch the car on - there's a clicking noise which suggests its not switching off the imobiliser. I've changed the fob battery but not change.

eurotec :

Hi, are you saying that the key will not start the car?

Customer:

Yes. It stopped operating the door/doors first. Now your turn the key in the ignition the dash fires up but then there's just a clicking noise and the engine doesn't fire up

eurotec :

Ok, this sounds like a dead car battery. I'd try jump starting the car first.

Customer:

OK, I'll try that thanks. If this fails am I looking at a new key fob or worse? :-)

eurotec :

The fob won't keep the starter from cranking the motor.

eurotec :

If the jump fails you will need to have the starter circuit tested.

eurotec :

It sounds mainly like a bad battery though.

Customer:

OK, thanks - very much appreciated. Rob
