Have you tried to manually open it with the blade key?

Yes I've tried that as well

I tried to edit this post with add'l information for you but the server wouldn't let me.

Odds are RST (top control module) thinks the top boot cover is not closed. This over rides the trunk latch so you dont crash the trunklid into the boot cover. Limit switches are a common problem for this.

Have you tried it with the top down? Might be a good idea to find someone with SDS to see whats going on with RST at this point.

I tried to put the top down and it won't move either way I feel I'm stuck....does this mean a ride to the dealership and a major fix

Expert:  MBGuru replied 9 years ago.
Well, you dont have to do the dealer thing. The big problem here is getting the code from the top module. Once you have those codes, most time the fix itself is fairly simple.

Try putting the blade key in and rotate the lock 45 degrees counter clockwise, then press. See if it will open.

I did try that ! I pressed as I turned the key did not open
Expert:  MBGuru replied 9 years ago.
Turn the key first and hold, then press. Try 45 degrees and 90 degrees.

well I'll try that tomorrow and if that doesn't work am I relegated then to go seek other help

Well, from there it becomes a quest to try and fix the issue without further damage to anything.
