Anger can be a totally normal and healthy emotion, most times developed from unresolved painful emotions like sadness, frustration, fear, and other negative feelings the person does not know how to effectively handle. Thus it could be not only normal but healthy to experience anger in different situations as a way to protect ourselves and not get overwhelmed, but when we are no longer little children or teenagers, and we develop an anger issue, where anger does not help us protect ourselves and cope but undermines our mood, functioning or relationships, then we need to come to terms with the fact we have developed severe mental health problem, most probably a mood disorder, which without treatment can get even worse, once it has been already chronic, like in your case.

For professional psychotherapy, the best professionals you could find are "counseling psychologists" (Ph.D. and Psy.D.) and marriage and family therapists -MFT. Both are specialized in psychotherapy. These are the best-educated professionals capable of providing therapy for mental health disorders.

Be aware that a credential does not ensure the professional is truly good at their job, like with any profession, you will find good, mediocre and bad people in this field — those with doctorate degrees or licenses, who should never work supporting people with counseling or psychotherapy, and those with lower-level education but who have aptitudes, vocation, and empathy to be excellent in the field.

The best is to find one with good credentials, experience, and the necessary vocation, aptitude, and maturity.

1- You could request your GP general practitioner / PCP -primary care physician- to refer you to mental health services. This is one of their main duties.

This association monitors and regulates all mental health clinics, thus they know every NGO, for-profit and community clinic, as well as what services each offer.

3- You could directly contact a practitioner using a professional directory like https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/therapists, where you can specify all criteria you would like your professional to match, and then contact at least three of them, for a free consultation if possible, so you could choose one that seems competent, caring and available.

4- You could contact your health plan -if you have one- and request referrals to professionals covered by your plan.

5- You could consider mental health services online. There are multiple websites, but most do not offer real professional mental health services, but coaching under the counseling label. This is why you need to be patient, cautious, and proactive to ensure you find a competent and ethical professional to support you.
