My 27-year old son is currently taking Clonazepam/6 mlg a day total. It is prescribed by his psychiatrist. He had been taking zanax and painkillellers prior to that. We put him into rehab and hafway house about 5 years ago, and he seemed to be better until he relapsed and went back to his old ways. He is not taking anything now except clonazepam. He claims that he has extreme social anxiety, and it's the only medication that seems to help. He does have some stuttering which he acquired at the age of 6, and he now works at the call center which requires him to talk a lot on the phone. He says that the medication relaxes him and makes his stutter less. Question 1: Is that true? Question 2: How can he get off it without having extreme panic attacks? Question 3: What does he need to do to relieve his social anxiety? Question 4: Should he continue the same kind of job, or is it better to get a job with less social contact? 5. What helps stuttering the best? I know it's a lot of questions, and thank you very much for you help.

P.S. BTW, his psychiatrist is only interested in prescibing him as many medications as he can. We tried psychologists, nothing helps.

A friend of mine has undergone a rather disturbing personality change in the past year. Where once full of life, sweet and sensitive with a great sense of humor, he's become very irritable and withdrawn, and I've caught him lying on several occasions (which he's never done in the 11 years I've known him). He's aware of the change and says he doesn't know what is causing it, but it's not depression. He sees a psychiatrist and was taking Effexor for 8 years or so, and is now taking Cymbalta as the Effexor was no longer effective. This change seemed to occur in a short period of time last fall and continues, despite the med change in the spring. He also suffers from anxiety issues, as does his father. Any thoughts? He is 43.
