Customer Question
Hi basically i take...

Hi basically i take sertaline 150mg tablets, now i was away from thursday-sunday and forogt to pack my meds, meaning i didnt take any and its making me anixous, will I be okay, and when will the meds make me feel normal again

Doctor's Assistant: How is your mood? Are you experiencing regular sleep disturbances (e.g. trouble falling asleep, waking up early)?

sleeping terms, a bit of waking up early, my mood at the moment is v anixous

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the Psychologist should know?

I have been taking sertaline/zolfort for about 10 months, before that i was on citelopram for 3 years and suffer from ocd/deprssion/anxixty and the meds do really help, and i stupidly forogt them

Doctor's Assistant: How long have you been dealing with this? Is there anything in particular that seems to make the symptoms better or worse?

Only today, the symptoms have come up

Hi, thanks for writing. My name is***** am sorry you were without your med for that stretch. The anxiety you are feeling is likely due to a combo effect of withdrawal (discontinuation) and breakthrough anxiety. Assuming most of what you are feeling is the anxiety that comes with a cold turkey withdrawal, resuming the Zoloft should have you feeling better in a matter of hours to days.

Don't fret - you should feel better very soon! Those discontinuation effects can hit hard - just get back on track with your normal dosing now and have some faith the acute anxiety will dissipate soon.

Is missing 3 days that horrific?, will the meds have the same effect when I start again, and should i start on the same dose?
i feel so annoyed at myself

If you only missed three doses, I don't expect there to be much effect if you just resume taking them as you had. I don't see a reason to reduce dose. There are some factors that go into how long it would take the Zoloft to wash out of your system and those are above my scope, but those would affect how much of the Zoloft is still in your system so you aren't starting from 0 when you restart taking. Since only three days, there is going to be some washout, hence your acute anxiety, but i think it is probably minimal enough that you can just restart the 150 which should not lead to any of the annoying start-up effects. Plus, after only 3 days, that amount you still have stored means less room needed to get back to where you were before which should mean pretty quick results in terms of withdrawal side effect reduction.

Don't beat yourself up. A few days of feeling crummy and you'll be okay.

Thank you to the Physician who answered my question today. The answer was far more informative than what I got from the Physicians I saw in person for my problem.
