Hi Pearl- my son...

Hi Pearl- my son has schizo-affective disorder and can never get to sleep until 6 or 7 am. Needless to say, this is terribly disruptibe disruptive for him. He refuses to take any medication. Over a year ago he became very paranoid and thought his psychiatrist and therapist were plotting against him. He has been hospitalized twice since then, once involuntarily. He is trying to get better on his own. He listens to self-help podcasts, tries meditation, and tries to eat better. I suggested CBT to him, but he says he is doing that on his own. He has tried melatonin, but without much success. Any ideas?

I had not heard about this before until one of my new clients brought to my attention as having helped her with her insomnia. Also there is an excellent book written called The Sleep Book by Dr. Guy Meadows, that offers some really good insight and strategies for tackling insomnia. Maybe you son could download and listen to it since he likes podcasts. I hope these these two suggestions that you gain some solutions for your son. May I help you further?
