Hello I believe I can help you with your concern

I can understand how feeling more emotional can be a concern for you. I would like to ask a few questions to get some more information so that I can better assist you.

Is sadness or crying the only emotional response you are having difficulty controlling currently? Or are there other emotions?

Do you cry in public as well?

And finally do you ever feel like crying for no reason at all? There is no stimuli like a movie or commercial, etc...?

Do you feel relieved after you cry though, like it is almost cathartic?

Well I can safely say that this is not a mental health disorder of any kind, but most likely you have repressed your emotions for so long that it has boiled over and not any little stimuli can set it off. But because you are not feeling sad, and because you are having no difficulty controlling other emotions, then most likely this is not a mental health disorder, but I do believe you would benefit from therapy to discuss this issues with a psychologist or a therapist.

Right now you are having these overwhelming feelings because of your long term repression, but the human psyche can only take so much and now you will have to learn to process those emotions in a more effective way instead of just repressing them

Well what about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) it is very effective and it is very logic based as well to help process these thoughts and feelings you are having. CBT has a premise that your symptoms are caused by negative thoughts, so if we change your thought process to be more positive and objective as well, then your symptoms will lessen.

It is not "talk therapy" in those terms as it does not deal with deal with idle talk, but instead it is goal directed and solution focused

Well I can give you an example of what it is, but basically the theory is that our thoughts cause our emotions, so if we change our thought process to be more objective and logical, then we will not have these feelings or symptoms anymore.

So this link may help you, it contains a technique I use with patients called a thought record. It will help you keep track of any negative thoughts you have. You put the negative thought on paper, the emotion accompanying, the evidence to support it, and the evidence against it. Then I want you to come up with an alternative thought for the situation (more objective and plausible). This will help you change your way of thinking to be able to think more positive and not automatically go to a negative type of thinking.

That is a common CBT technique that I use with patients and it helps them to process their thoughts and feelings more and not let it be repressed, which I think you have done

Well I think these are unresolved negative thoughts that have seeped into your subconscious and that is why you are having difficulty with the crying episodes, but you are right you are not depressed, or Bipolar, nor do you have a Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), but I do think you have this repression of emotions for so long that it has triggered an overflow and sensitivity to negative or sad/sappy stimuli

Well there is no easy fix to it as these are long term repression of emotions boiling over and causing this, so truthfully therapy is the only real way to get any fix from this, as even medication is not effective for this..

I know it does, but you are not crazy at all. Remember you do not have a mental health disorder, but that does not mean you would not benefit from therapy

You can try taking natural supplements of St. Johns Wort and Omega-3 as well, and that can help you too

Well it really depends on the type of therapy that will benefit you, as there are multiple kinds of therapy. Perhaps you would benefit from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) that uses logical thought process combined with an Eastern Philosophy and meditation to help you as well. In addition, you may want to try Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Describe what you mean by "sensitive equilibrium?"

Oh so that type of equilibrium issue, it could cause disorientation, so may be EMDR would not be for you, but I am not an EMDR specialist, so it can be a question you may want to ask if you do seek EMDR therapy

Well DBT therapy can be a good option for you. There is also Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that may be helpful too. So there are different therapy modalities out there that can help

Well the therapy modalities were originally designed for specific disorder, but obviously branched out and have shown to be effective for a variety of issues and not their intended use when the therapy modality was started.

I know you want a direct and firm answer, but truthfully repression of emotions is what makes sense right now and that it only manifests during certain stimuli. I would focus on that issue during therapy, but it would take some time to figure out the exact cause for this

Also you may never figure out the cause, but the therapy modalities that I mentioned can help you stop the crying now

Well I wanted to give you a different therapy than just the "talk about my day" therapy which you seem to mention would not work for you

So I wanted to mention goal-directed therapies for you

Yeah the Myers Briggs Personality Types are actually pretty invalid and unreliable, for a true measure of your personality you would want to take personality assessments from a psychologist called the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Second Edition (MMPI-2), and Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory Third Edition (MCMI-III).

I know that it is annoying for you and I wish I could give you the firm answer. All I can tell you is that you do not meet the criteria for depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety disorder, or a Personality Disorder at this time.

I do think you will figure out the cause through therapy or possibly can control these crying episodes through therapy too

Well stress and anxiety can cause you to be sensitive to certain stimuli and cause crying spells.

The therapy sessions will help that too, but it really depends on the right therapy for you

Well try the goal-oriented therapy and I think it will be more to your liking
