Is it possible to "sleep yourself to death" almost as a form

This answer was rated:

Is it possible to "sleep yourself to death" almost as a form of suicide. To just sleep and sleep. I have a young adult child who is doing this.
There are a couple things that could be happening. The most likely is depression. When a person is depressed, they often feel tried much of the time. Some of these people find it difficult to sleep and some over sleep. Someone who has no physical illness causing them to need the rest, who is sleeping most of the day, could be so profoundly depressed, they are unable to function.

If the person is not depressed the other options are sleep disorders, like apnea. If apnea is playing a part, you would most likely notice them snoring loudly, stop breathing, and then start again with a loud snort or choking sound. Whether the cause is depression or a sleep disorder, they need to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible to determine the cause and the treatment.
