Greetings, and thank you for your question. What your prescriber is describing and asking you to do is what is referred to as a cross taper. In a cross taper, a person moves from one medicine to the next, but starts the second medicine before stopping the first. This is helpful for several reasons:

(1) If the new medicine is a bad fit, you are still on some element of the first medicine still to cover you.

(2) It will help to prevent withdrawal symptoms from stopping the Lexapro

(3) It will allow you to have some coverage with the Lexapro until the Viibryd is in your system.

Viibryd is an SSRI, and SSRI's in general are the first-line choice for anxiety and panic disorder. You have tried other SSRI's, such as Zoloft and Celexa, with Paxil and Prozac being other options should the Viibryd not work as desired.
