VerifiedIt is a mild possibility that your son may be experiencing a psychotic disorder, but let's look at a few things that may make you feel better about this.
Children sometimes have hallucinations that are brought about for reasons that are not always purely psychological. Biochemical changes in their bodies, brought about by Human Growth Hormone, dietary changes and even allergies have been know to cause odd symptoms such as you see here.
Yes, he should be seen by a physician, and these symptoms can be indicative of a physical problem. Remotely, there is a chance that he is experiencing the symptoms of a psychotic disorder. But, he is very young and first break prodromal symptoms of schizophrenia usually do not begin until early teens. To have this at seven is often an indication of another issue that could be as simple as hyper/hypo glycemia, or a virus or even a strep infection, which would be a much more logical reason for the symptoms.
No matter if the symptoms persist or not, he should be seen face to face by his doctor. Some simple tests can rule out what I think will end up being a physical issue rather than a psychological one. It is best practice to do this and I would do so for my own children. Steven
