Therapy would be most helpful if this is a case of a true personality disorder versus a mood disorder or any other of the disorders that would require medication. Personality disorders are seen as something that can not per se be cured (but the person who is diagnosed with it can learn coping skills and how to manage their symptoms in therapy) Hopefully she is willing to do that.
If either of you have EAP (employee assistance) benefits through your work, they provide some free counseling sessions. Your HR/Personnel Dept will advise of this benefit. Otherwise, you may find a reduced cost counseling/mental health at any of the community mental health clinics/centers in your area. These provide both therapy and medication. The EAP provides only counseling.
It may be helpful to also connect with free support groups in your area if any are offered at this time for family members of individuals suffering from psychiatric disorders. NAMI.org may have a listing of these or by calling the United Way toll free #211 (from a land line phone)
