VerifiedViibryd is a new SSRI based anti-depressant that has gained some notoriety because it does not seem to cause, as often, the sexual side effects that the majority of the drugs that you have taken, (not including Wellbutrin) often do.
Know that only 50-60% of depressions, especially low grade, functional ones, respond to medications alone. Rather, cognitive behavioral therapy and talk therapy in general as an adjunct to these medications shows 80-85% improvement. If you have not tried CBT, I would highly encourage you to do so. Your doctor can make a referral for you if you wish as they often know the best therapists in your area.
As far as supplements, St John's Wort is out of the question as it can boost serotonin levels to a range that could start serotonin syndrome, a potentially life threatening condition.
You may wish to ask about the supplement series that in the UK and US has been shown to help, and with your doctor's permission, may assist you. 1000mg of Omega 3 fatty acid per day. 10 mg zinc, 100 mg magnesium glycinate and 100mg calcium. This combination has been shown to stabilize mood in many individuals and is worth a try. But, as your doctor first as the zinc and magnesium especially can cause problems with other drugs. Steven
Yes, many SSRI's can cause anxious behavior and may cause some of the symptoms you indicate. I know this may sound discouraging but you should see your doctor as these symptoms can be a sign that you are having a reaction to the drug.
Pharmacy grade supplements such as those sold by www.kirkmanlabs.com I have faith in, but few others. Look at the link I have included here. The magnesium and zinc can cause certain medications to not absorb, and thus, not work. But it is usually gastrointestinal medications. Biofeedback is okay, but you need therapy that is geared toward depression. This would include CBT, interpersonal therapy and others. If you are not making good progress with your social worker I would highly encourage you to seek another. You should not need to wait several months to feel better. Some improvement should be seen in 4-8 weeks. Steven
