Customer Question

Is it normal for a 7 year old child to act different towards step-father after speaking with biological father whom she just met over the phone? Is this a sign that therapy is needed at this age?

Thank you for writing in JustAnswer.
Let me ask you a few questions first.
How did she act towards her stepfather after talking to biofather?
Did she know that her biofather exist?
Do you know what they talked about?

Hi there,
Thank you for waiting.
It sounds like your 7 year-old reacted to her bio father's call.
It's not surprising that she acted differently towards her step father.
She may be confused, anxious or angry. I can't tell exactly how she may be feeling about her experience of speaking with her bio father.
However, it may have triggered big emotion such as anxiety.
If she is acting negatively towards her step father, you may need to ask her what's bothering her. If she can't talk about it, she may benefit from seeing a child psychotherapist who uses play and talk therapy weekly for 3-6 months.
Please let me know if you have more questions or I have overlooked any. Warm regards,
