Firstly, self-medication is dangerous - any meds must be prescribed by her Doctor.

Commonly, medication usually consists of a mood stabilizer such as lithium or valproate (to help with manic phases) and may be supplemented with an anti depressant, either a tri-cyclic or a SSRI. There are concerns tht the use of anti-depressants in the depressive phase may cause a swing over into a manic phase, and there is currently a lot of research being done to determine the best way to treat adoloescents with this disorder.
