I have searched my texts and online specialized data bases and the amount of what I found is discouraging, although I hope what I found is useful. Basically, the only research I could find was on parents. Nothing on Aunts and Uncles, or grandparents, but tracing etiology that way seems to have generally little to say. I will try to present this coherently. I will first tell you how often the disorder occurs naturally in the population and how the odds of the child having the disorder are influenced by a parent having the disorder (I assume if both have it, the odds of child having it are really high). So, here we go:
I would most be concerned about schizophrenia and bipolar, wherever they occurred (e.g. grandparents). The same with Personality disorder. Depression and anxiety are less worrisome and adjustment disorder should be of no concern.
I know his doesn't look like much, but it took about 2 hours.

- About 1% of the population (in all cultures around the world) have schizophrenia. If a child is born to a schizophrenic parent, it is 10 times more likely to develop schizophrenia than the general populations. It is slightly worse odds if the mother has the schizophrenia.
- About.5% of the population has bipolar disorder (this number is ***** as most researches are conceptualizing bipolar and depression as two end of the same continuum). A child of a bipolar parent has a 5-6 fold increased chance of bipolar disease.
- Depression is looked at in terms of lifetime prevalence as depression may not be forever, often only a few years. For men, about 5 to 12 % will have at least one depressive episode, for women it s from 10 to 25% (varies depending on the study. Children born to a depressive parent have about a 3-5 fold increase in risk.
- Adjustment disorder is an oddity in this bunch. Almost everyone has one at sometime or another, and there is no genetic risk to children. No relationship.
- Personality disorders differ depending on the disorder, but estimates are 2-8% of the population. A child of a parent with a has five time more likely chance of developing a personality disorder.
- A Generalized Anxiety disorder occurs about 3-5% of the time. There is a link genetically, which estimates the child at 1 to 3 times more likely to develop GAD.
