I am extremely moody - different from day to day - happy one

Customer Question

I am extremely moody - different from day to day - happy one day - sad the next - irritable and very demanding etc. nothing seems to interest me or I cannot keep an interest for long, I have a lot of other symptoms, anxiety, irritability, different sleep patterns, I shy away from people. I try and change, stop smoking go to the gym eat healthy foods (fruit & vegs), but after a while (2 - 3 months) I sort of forget why and go back to my old habits. I am also very emotional. I've been like this as long as I can remember. I am a 34 year old female.

Have you seen any Doctor for these problems?
If yes what was the diagnosis and what treatment have you received?
Have you gone through any test specially Thyroid profile Test?
Any history of medical or psychiatric disease in past?
Any positive history of medical of psychiatric disease in family?

No, haven't seen a doctor or had a Thyroid profile Test, don't know where to start or who to see. Never been on any anti-depressants, or other medication except herbal teas and the anti stress herbal tablets which seems to help on a short term basis. Only thing I've done that has helped me quite a bit was a cognitive retraining computer program. Sharper could tell you more about this program. It took away my impatience a lot and I can communicate with people better and tolerate a lot more than I were able to. That was just after my daughter's birth, she is now 3 years old. No medical history in family, but I do notice a lot of my problems in my dad's behaviour - impatience, unable to communicate or form bonds with people, moody, unpredictable, not able to focus on something for a long period of time, not interested in a lot. He has never been to a doctor. Apart from my mental state I am very healthy and have never had any medical problems. When I had my daughter my moods got a lot worse and unpredictable, I controlled it with diet and exercise, but never took any medication. Smoking effects me on a long term basis. I have quit quite a few times and it always helps quite drastically with focus and concentration.

Still waiting. Don't know if I will be able to wait the whole weekend. Please let me know if you are still pondering, or if there is another problem. Did my question time-out?
