Second opinion] Hi I have an 04 Volvo Vnl 400 isx. Check data link broken message and no rpm signal j1708 and j1587 and 12 other codes from the ipc module. Also when I pull the fuse for the Qualcom f59 the rpm comes back, but the engine is still derated at 1500. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello and thank you for using Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I'd like to try and help. I am sorry that you are having issues with your Volvo. I know this can be frustrating. On your issue, The 1587/1708 link is a critical link on this unit. The qualcoms and other sat systems installed have different methods of hooking up. Check in the rear of the truck where the sat antennas are usually mounted. There will be a bracket at the rear of the cab towards the top of the sleeper, Usually what happens is the cord is left exposed and it will corrode and when it is not disconnected it will either bridge power or ground to the other data link(live) wires in that connection. If they did this what I usually do is lift up the carpet on the pass side of the truck, You will find a cable that is the same size as the one exiting the cab, Cut that cable and separate the wires, You will find a paid of twisted wires inside, Make sure you seal off those ends so they do not ground or short out. Another option you can do is in the main fuse panel in the center of the cab. There will be a yellow and green twisted paid and a twisted pair of black wires which should have a wire number of 400 and 401. This is your 1587/1708 data link wires. There should be a black small 2 pin connector not connected to anything. If it is, remove that connection and that will disconnect it from the old qualcom system as well. Hi mike. Thanks for the info. It seems someone cut the sat antenna out, and the wires shorted. So, the broken data link message is out when the Qualcomm is on and the gauges work. The other problem is the j1939 error and loss of speed signal. Do you know if the wiring to the sat antenna would interfere? I did separate all the wires. Thx for your help.

It all depends on which data link they connected to. I have had a lot of sat systems that used both data links which in this case it will cause that issue as well

I think there’s both. 2 blacks and the green and yellow on the terminating resistors. My friend is going to plug in his scanner see if he gets any more details
