Hello, we hat a cat 3406e, the shop just did an inframe, but there's no oil pressure. The oil pump tested ok. They say there's no oil coming out at the oil pressure sensor port, but air goes through. What could be the issue?

The most likely cause of this after an in chassis would be possible faulty oil pump or oil pump pickup tube sucking air. A faulty oil pump pressure relief valve, restricted oil galley or port from some debris getting into an oil galley causing a blockage of oil flow, a faulty oil bypass valve, and incorrect clearances of rod and main bearings, or an excessive oil leak elsewhere internally. Could it be electrical because the light on the ops bypass filter doesn't come on when the ignition is turned.

Here is what I recommend to confirm that. Grab a mechanical pressure gauge of 150 to 500 psi. Adapt the gauge into your oil pressure sensor port or your oil filter housing, etc. while cranking the engine see if you have actual oil pressure reading with a mechanical gauge. If you do, this problem is likely a problem either with your oil pressure sending unit, the wiring, or your gauge giving false readings. You will definitely want to confirm that you have actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.

The minimum oil pressure spec at idle is 15 psi and at 1200 to 2100 RPM's the minimum oil pressure is 40 psi

The rod bearing measurements of the old ones were cat 0.635 and the new ones are pai 0.025 (both part#7E0558/cross referenced). Could that stop the oil from coming out of the port?

ROD CLEARANCE

Clearance between the new bearing and the journal ... 0.062 mm to 0.160 mm (0.0024 inch to 0.0063 inch)
Maximum permissible clearance between the bearing and the journal ... 0.20 mm (0.008 inch)
MAIN BEARING CLEARANCE

Main bearing cap with two bolts
Clearance between new bearing and new journal ... 0.076 to 0.186 mm (0.0030 to 0.0073 inch)
Main bearing cap with four bolts
Clearance between new bearing and new journal ... 0.071 to 0.178 mm (0.0028 to 0.0070 inch)

Want to make sure that your clearances aren't outside of the specifications using plasti gage to check your clearances.

The mechanic says they were in specs when he put them in. he's checking wiring and cleaning connections. But so far no luck and no oil coming out of the port when cranking

I would definitely check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to verify.

They took the oil pan back off and rechecked the oil pump and said it's broke. Put a new one in there and now they say there's oil pressure but the engine speed sensor is broke. Buying this now and hopefully that'll get the truck started. Yesterday they said half of the truck doesn't have power and were checking wiring, don't know yet about the outcome on that. Very frustrating.They said the oil pump went bad because it was sitting out for a few weeks for that inframe they just did. Is that plausible? The pump was bought in June last year and never gave issues and there was no oil pressures issues before the inframe. They said the spring seized up.

Thank you for the updated information. That still shouldn't have happened unless of course they put it in a parts washer tank and then left it dry or something similar to that.
