2006 Isuzu NPR, JALC4B16567000364. Diesel...
2006 Isuzu NPR, JALC4B16567000364. Diesel engine wont shut off by the key. Unplugging the wire harness to the ignition switch makes no difference. Removing the third relay from the left, in the dash panel will shut it off and everything functions normal without it. Charging system seems to be working fine too. Any ideas?

Disconnect alternator charge cable from back of alternator and start engine then see if it shuts off

sounds like the alternator is back feeding keeping power to accessory side of fuses

We tried that and it made no difference. If we remove relay B-19 (charge) or relay B-21(heat) the engine will shut off. With either one of those relays out, If the blower motor is on, there is a slight delay before the engine shuts down.

Swap relay J209 with another relay and see if the engine will then cut off. That is the cut relay. It will be the 2nd one in from the top right of the box. The smaller set of relays, top middle. The relay box that is on the left side rear of cab.

The other is to check the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel pump. It may not be closing when the key is turned off which keeps the engine running. Same as the ignition switch. If it is still sending power, or if the relay is sticking closed, you won't get a shut off.

I will try the rely swap tomorrow. I think there is some connection between the blower motor and the shut down. When the heat is on, the engine shuts down slower.

B21 really is out at the moment and it shuts down no problem. If the heat is on it runs for a second longer.

Hmmm... Now that is an odd one.

So there is back-feeding going on from the description.

I'll get into IDSS and see if the harnesses run next to each other or if any common points to create back-feed.
