I have a 2013...

I have a 2013 cascadia. in this extreamly cold weather my apu is not cutting it.ill idle my rig overnight for warmth to the 7 or 8 hour mark, and the def system, i presume will 'derate' and the engine will shut off. i will then go through the regen procedure. My question is, is this all i can do? is it bad for the def system? Is this a enconvience you simply live with?

Nope, there is nothing wrong with the system.

What needs to be done is to have the aut idle up turned on and that issue will stop. You will need a computer with DDDL to do it. What the feature will do is it will auto idle the engine up every hour for about 1 minute to blow out the soot that is caking in the filter, as well as carbon, so the truck doesn't do that on you. You'll then be able to get about 12 hours before that happens instead of around 8 "ish."
