Working on a 97 international...
Working on a 97 international with a DT466E. Last 8 of VIN are VH451530.I keep getting two persistent codes. 164-10 Injection control pressure abnormal rate of change. 164-0 Injection control pressure date valid but above normal operational range. Codes have been cleared many times and they just keep coming back.HPOP is only a few weeks old. New IPR with it. Truck is noisy in the top end at idle (gets even a little louder at idle when its warmed up). I can drive it down the road, good power,

Hi my name is***** will be glad to help. If a new HPOP and IPR but 164 ICP codes, check with shop air in the ICP sensor port for leaks under the valve cover or remove the valve cover and watch foe oil leaking around the injectors and for loose/broken injector hold down clamps, etc. Verify acrual ICP pressure with a 5000 PSI gauge in the ICP sensor port. Should be around 870 PSI idle and cranking and up to 4000 PSI with 12 V on the IPR and no leaks confirmed in thehigh pressure rail and injector o rings. Let me know

I ran it with the valve cover off and saw no abnormal leakage around the injectors. There was the usual slopping around of oil but no obvious leakage. All o rings on the injectors were just replaced as well...I have not checked the actual icp pressure with a manual gauge yet.

If pressure plays out to be normal, what is the next step?

If the pressure comes out normal and the IPR, ICP, and HPOP are confirmed good, and all mechanical checks pass and no leaks,Injectors test good, this can be ECM software related. I would reflash and update the ECM software and see if the problem still exists.

Is it "normal" that the truck will run with the ipr unplugged? And not only unplugged, but with the ipr solenoid removed?

Depends what the ECm is seeing for ICP pressure from the ICP sensor.... If in range it will allow the engine to run

I unplugged and removed the icp sensor. Installed a 5000 psi gauge. Truck idled at 800 psi just like it should - and the loud racket from the top of motor was gone - and no codes other than a 164-4 (which had to do with icp sensor being unplugged). Took it for a test drive and it ran great.
Tomorrow I am going to reinstall the sensor and see how she runs.

Reinstalled the old sensor today. Truck ran quiet and 0 codes.... I'm starting to think (maybe) that yesterday morning when I was checking wires and so on that some connection got wiggled just right and cleared up the codes. I have changed nothing in reality. After a couple of days of use next week I will see if she is going to still behave.
