I have a 2005 Isuzu FTR with a 24 foot box on it. My brakes

Customer Question

Good evening. I have a 2005 Isuzu FTR with a 24 foot box on it. My brakes have not been disengaging and the result is that the truck will barely run at 35 to 40MPH. I am afraid to drive it. The brakes literally smoke. Would the brake booster going bad cause the calipers to stay closed? Any help would be tremendously appreciated. CM Chattanooga, TN

Hi, my name is***** will be glad to help. The likely cause is the caliper piston sticking or the caliper slides. Remove the wheels and try to retract the pistons manually using a large C clamp or piston retraction tool. If any will not retract easily replace the caliper. also clean the caliper slides as well or put hardware kits in them. Let me know the results. If that checks ok then you are looking at a possible booster and master cylinder problem as you suspected causing pressure to hold the brakes slightly applied.
