Customer Question

I have a cat 3306 engine in a Steiger tractor. This engine is next to being wore out. It has always been hard starting and I need to use starting fluid each time. I installed a starting fluid system I removed from another engine so that I would not have to spray into the air cleaner. I then went to start the engine and it sprayed too much. The engine turned over jerking and tied to run. The second time I tied to start it, It turned over jerky then nothing. We even pulled the tractor letting the engine turn over, nothing. I'm assuming as the engine is wore out that a timing gear ha jumped a cog. What do you think? Jim

Hi Jim. Thanks for asking your question. I will try and help you out.

When you used the starting fluid. Did the engine rpm rev up way too high?
