2004 Peterbilt w/C15 Acert (BXS) Okay i finally got fan situation figured out and it now cycles on @ 217 and off @206 like it should. BUT now when it gets hot (230 i believe) the buzzer comes on and "oil" light comes on instead of "coolant". Anything to
worry about?

Thanks for asking your question. I will try and help you out.

The engine does not have an oil temp sensor. The ECM calculates the oil temp off the coolant temp.

So the engine coolant temp is getting up to 230? Does this happen under heavy loads of steep hills only?

It appears it would be a low oil light maybe, it says oil with a little oil can below it. Prior to all this the coolant temp light was the one that came on. And for the most part it heats up (230) on any hill with any size load.
Technician: Cat Man, Cat Engine Expert replied 7 years ago

Thanks for the information.

If the engine is getting hot on hills, there are two things I have seen cause this.

The first is one of the thermostats is not opening completely. Your engine has two.

Second is a partially restricted radiator. When this happens, the engine will begin overheating first on hills.

I would try the thermostats first. If the problem continues. I would have the radiator removed and professionally cleaned or replaced. Flushing the system normally does not help.

I'm sure the oil light is coming on due to the engine temp getting high.

Please reply back if you need more help or have more questions. I am happy to assist.
