Freightliner /Detroit 60 series: I have a 60 series detroit

Customer Question

I have a 60 series detroit diesel engine question. A loaded freight liner truck entering the Interstate got rear ended by another loaded truck traveling about 25 mph faster. All 6 ceramic rollers on the intake valve rocker arms were found to be shattered in the slower truck. Is this typical for the 60 series engine?

good evening my name is ***** ***** I will assist
I doubt this is a result of the collision. what concerns me in the picture is the rust on the cam lobes... has the truck been sitting with the valve cover off???
when the collision occurred, did the motor stall????

Yes, the valve cover was loose and the oil pan was full of rain water. The truck did not stall. It ran at idle for about 4 hours after the incident before it was towed away. Driver was groggy from the impact and was taken to hospital. The next day, after picking up the relatively undamaged truck, it was weak and stalled while accelerating to highway speed.
