That's sounds like a good bit of deck erosion. It's normal to see some but from what you are describing, yours has a good bit.
Why was the head removed? Was the head gasket failed?

I have heard of it just not ever used it.
If you have had success with it, I would say its worth a try. It would be a lot faster and cheaper than removing a tearing down the engine to have it machined.
