With that much coolant loss, I must assume the coolant is either being pushed out the over flow, or being consumed in the engine.
I would first suspect it being pushed out of the over flow. I have seen this a lot. There are two things I have seen cause this.
The first is a cracked jacket water aftercooler. It's between the turbos and air cooler. When it is cracked, it will allow boost pressure to enter the cooling system and push coolant out the over flow.
Second is a leaking head gasket.
I would first remove the piping from around the JWPC, and look for evidence of coolant. IT will be a white looking substance. If you see none of this, I must suspect the head gasket is leaking and allowing compression to enter the cooling system and push coolant form the over flow.

Yes there is. But normally when this happens, the coolant will enter one of the cylinders and cause a hydrolock. Unfortunately, re-torqing the head will not help. I am sorry.
