ESN#79329815

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago

Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX is the same unit we were talking about last week, I would start to think either you have lifted valve stem seals allowing oil to mix with the exhaust and plugging the system or failed/ over fueling injector(s), A bad or damaged DOC and exhaust leaks can also be a cause

CODEREASONEFFECT
Fault Code: 2554
PID: P131
SPN: 1209
FMI: 2/2
LAMP: Amber
SRT:

Exhaust Gas Pressure - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect. The exhaust gas pressure sensor is reading an erratic value at initial key ON.

At key ON, before the engine starts, the sensor readings for intake manifold pressure, barometric air pressure, and exhaust gas pressure are compared to each other. This fault code occurs if the exhaust gas pressure sensor reading is different from the other sensor readings. This check is only done once after the keyswitch is turned ON.

Possible causes of this fault code include:

  • Stuck in-range exhaust gas pressure sensor reading
  • High resistance in the exhaust gas pressure sensor signal or return lines
  • Plugging or restrictions in the exhaust gas pressure sensor tube

The engine control module (ECM) will estimate the exhaust gas pressure.

CODEREASONEFFECT
Fault Code: 2637
PID:
SPN: 5018
FMI: 11/11
LAMP: None
SRT:

Catalyst Face Plugged - Root Cause Not Known. The front face of the aftertreatment diesel oxidation catalyst has been detected to be plugged with soot.

This fault code is set when the inlet face of the diesel oxidation catalyst is detected to be plugged with soot.

Possible causes of this fault code include:

  • Engine oil or fuel plugging the front face of the aftertreatment diesel oxidation catalyst

Active aftertreatment diesel particulate filter regeneration will be disabled

CODEREASONEFFECT
Fault Code: 4214
PID: Not Mapped
SPN: 5018
FMI: 1/18
LAMP: Amber
SRT:

Aftertreatment 1 Diesel Oxidation Catalyst System - Data Valid But Below Normal Operating Range - Moderately Severe Level

This fault code is logged when the temperature increase across the catalyst during an aftertreatment injection event is lower than expected.

Possible causes of this fault code include:

  • Soot plugging the front face of the aftertreatment diesel oxidation catalyst
  • Engine oil or fuel contamination of the aftertreatment diesel oxidation catalyst
  • Cracked or contaminated aftertreatment diesel oxidation catalyst
  • Malfunction in the aftertreatment fuel injection system
  • Leaking exhaust system between the turbocharger and the diesel oxidation catalyst.

An in-range malfunction of the aftertreatment diesel oxidation catalyst inlet temperature sensor or the aftertreatment diesel particulate filter inlet temperature sensor can cause this fault code

None on performance. Active aftertreatment diesel particulate filter regeneration will be disabled.

thank

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
Try the sensor for the inlet and clear the codes, If you keep getting the 2554 it is a bad exhaust gas pressure sensor or plugged sensing tube

Customer reply replied 8 years ago

Good morning

After all now i heave the same code (4214)

I check exhaust no smog when its running, only little smog coming out when starting and its so little i think its very normal for diesel engine.

I take out DOC and DPF take to dealer clean them put at beck on after 10000 mill same code (4214).

Last time i change all the sensors on the filter nothing left and i don't know what else i can do.

Any idea ???

How i can Perform INSITE™ electronic service tool Aftertreatment Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Test

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
You need the Cummins Insite Program that is used to communicate with the ecm.
Ask Your Own Medium and Heavy Trucks Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

I have that program can you tell me the steps and the results?

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
Once in Insite go to advanced ecm data, You will see aftertreatment history, maint, ect. Click on Aftertreatment maint and you will see a drop down box on top click on that and select RESET ALL than reset, Sometimes you will have to reset the dpf and doc separate, this will allow the ecm to know the system is being refreshed and will aid in regeneration performance. Please tell me the current ECM code that is in the ecm. There may be updates you need as well

How I can get the code

I Always rest all.

I try separately and I let you know

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
The code is on the top bar by the engine serial number. It should start with a letter such as CL12345.03
Ask Your Own Medium and Heavy Trucks Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

I am having the same problem with this particular unit with the dpf and the whole egr sytem. i don't see any visual smoke when I disconnect the exhaust pipe, all the things that we have talked about in the past I have done. I was thinking if there is a way to turn off the whole thing through the computer and test it without any intervention from the computer as far as the egr and dpf, maybe I can find the problem. I have tried everything that you have suggested so far and everything seems to be temporary. It is ok when I finish fixing it, but the check engine comes on 1500 miles later, and I have to go through the same thing again. Thanks

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
The only test you can do without Insite is a snap test All this does is check the dpf for being cracked. If your still having an issue i would suspect internal engine damage such as carbon packing of the piston. This happens when carbon builds up on the piston at the upper ring land and damages the liner and puts oil in the aftertreatment. Other causes are leaking or bad injectors. valve stem seal leaking
Ask Your Own Medium and Heavy Trucks Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

how i can do snap test?

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
Oh sorry. All a snap test does is checks the DPF for cracking, press the throttle down to the floor and check for smoke from the tail pipe. This test can be done several times if needed

You have Cummins Insite correct?
Ask Your Own Medium and Heavy Trucks Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

Yes

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
Please hook up to the ECM and advise me of any engine faults. I think these are not engine related. You can clear the engine codes if inactive in the ecm with insite
Ask Your Own Medium and Heavy Trucks Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

I know I hook up the computer no engine cods. But I have a ac problem and my ac mechanic tell me there is stored codes we need to delete. You know how?.

And what's the proper way to clear ecm code whet Cummins inside?

Technician: cumminsdr, Mechanic replied 8 years ago
To clear engine codes when you are in Insite go to fault codes, once in put the pointer in the box on the fault. Right click the mouse and select reset all/clear all. The other codes you have will need to be cleared by a dealer on the International side
